The aclaimed writer of inspector morse , Colin Dexter, is coming to winchester. He will be giving a talk at the ’winchester writers’ conference’ on the twenty eighth of june, giving advise and expertes. Involving sixty other novelists, giving lectures seminars and workshops. this event will be run in june.
I was listening to womans hour the other day, which is on radio 4, 10-11 weekdays, and they were talking about blogging! I didn’t realised how popular it is and there are all sorts of blogs that you can get. They were saying about a personal one that a woman did and the people who read it treated it like a soap opera. The woman that made it said it really helped her as she was in a bit of a dead end in her life! not saying our blogs should be like that lol. Another one they spoke of was by a politician who did just blog about her party etc, maybe not as exciting as the other! i just thought i’d let everyone know how accesable various types of blogs are!
Womans hour is also really good at keeping up to date with issues in the news, they have diverse topics and i really interesting.. and no its not just a bunch of feminists! i would recomend it to everyone, you can listen to it again the same as with the today program. You never know it may help with the next portfolio.

I know its a bit late to comment on news day but i will anyway. I thought it was a really good experience, however, there only three of us in our group which made it a struggle but i think we coped really well. In my group (me, rich and geggs) me and Rich did the sub-editing, although there was quite alot of editing to do to the stories we chose, this also gave a better insight into how everyone in the year writes! Geggs did the layout of our newspaper and did i good job except for not putting our main story onto the front page, which was an over sight on all our parts. Well anyway i thought it was good practical to do and really showed the pressure put on journalists and the importance of a deadline! Looking forward to Radio day!
University story
American exchange students left stranded at University of Winchester.
Students were separated and left in accommodation with no food, no bedding and the wrong courses.
A student, Kirsty Tulloch,19, said, “I live with an exchange student and am shocked that she was not told anything, I had to show her how to get to the supermarket which is difficult to get to.”
The exchange students claimed that when they got to the university they were not informed as to what was happening and had not been told what to bring with them.
Before the students came to England they were told that they would have fully equipped and catered accommodation. Instead they were put in halls of residence away from the canteens.
Some students were left disappointed when their courses did not meet their expectations,
Elizabeth Boon, 21, an exchange student from Ohio commented, “I had to be put into a different class, as the one I was in was too advanced.”
A concern is that the disruption may affect their learning and could result in other exchange students opting out of the program.
Local MP-Mark Oaten
MP Mark Oaten resigned after acqusations of having an affair with a rent boy.
The allegations against Oaten, who was the former home affairs spokesman for the lib dems, came as another shock for the party as charles kennedy had just admitted his drinking problem.
The news of the world claimed that, Oaten kept the affair going for over a year, between 2004-2005 with secret meetings.
The allegations came about due to the rent boy finding out who Oaten was and then saying to a newspaper that he requested three in a bed and that he was a very troubled man.
Oaten a right winger, married with two daughters, apologised through a newpaper, for the embarrasment caused for his family, friends and party.
He has now gone on to become the local MP for the City of Winchester, supporting the post office cuts and funding for local hospitals, hopefully putting his past behind him.
